Terms of Service

Updated: August 2026 · v2.0

The service

START TO INVENT sells digital build guides: interactive steps, videos, code and print files for electronics and 3D-printing projects. Using the site, creating an account or purchasing on it means you accept these terms.

Age & minors

  • Creating an account and purchasing requires being 18+, or a parent/guardian acting for a minor.
  • Projects are made to be built together — minors should build only with adult supervision.

Your account

  • Your account is personal. Keep your credentials safe — you are responsible for activity on it.
  • Provide accurate, up-to-date details; accounts with false details may be closed.

Digital purchases

  • Digital access only — purchases do not include a physical kit or parts. Parts are bought separately (links in every project).
  • A one-time purchase grants personal, lifetime access to that project on your account.
  • Payment for digital content is processed by an international payment partner acting as Merchant of Record, as shown at checkout. Your invoice is issued by them, and their buyer terms apply in addition to these.
  • Prices include applicable taxes where required by the law of your country.

Subscription

  • The subscription opens the full project catalog, including new projects as they are added — for as long as the subscription is active.
  • It renews automatically each billing period until you cancel. Cancel any time from your account page, in one click — access continues until the end of the paid period, and no further charge is made.
  • The catalog may change over time — projects are added, and occasionally removed or replaced. Projects you bought with a one-time purchase are not affected.
  • Files you lawfully downloaded while your subscription was active keep their personal licence (see "Personal licence") after the subscription ends. Re-downloading and access to paid steps and videos require an active subscription.
  • Subscription price changes are announced at least 30 days in advance and apply from the next billing period.
  • A failed charge pauses access until payment is settled.

Cancellations & refunds — digital content

  • You may cancel a one-time digital purchase for a full refund within 14 days of purchase — as long as you have not downloaded files from that project. A file download is the line: it is recorded on our side and counts as opening the paid content.
  • Downloaded files, or past the 14 days? Write to us anyway — every request is reviewed on its merits, fairly.
  • If a technical problem prevents access to content you purchased and we cannot fix it within a reasonable time — full refund, no questions asked.
  • Subscription: the first charge is fully refundable within 14 days — as long as no files were downloaded during the subscription. Renewal charges are not refunded pro-rata — cancellation applies going forward, with access until the end of the paid period. Duplicate or erroneous charges are always refunded.
  • A refund revokes access to the paid content, including download links already issued.
  • Fairness cuts both ways: we may decline refunds in cases of an abusive pattern (for example repeated purchase–download–refund cycles) or a breach of these terms. Downloads are logged and serve as evidence (see the Privacy Policy).
  • To request a refund, write to [email protected] from your account email — we reply within 3 business days. You may also contact the payment provider directly via your receipt; the policy on this page applies on both routes.
  • An approved refund is returned in full to the original payment method — usually within 3–5 business days.
  • The above is subject to applicable consumer law and does not limit non-waivable rights; for digital content this policy is broader than the law requires. Purchases made through the payment provider are also covered by that provider's buyer terms and refund policy.

Personal licence & intellectual property

  • Content, guides, videos, code and files are the property of START TO INVENT. A purchase grants a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence: build for yourself, print for yourself, and adapt the code and files for your own build.
  • Do not sell, rent, share, redistribute, upload to other sites or republish the content, code or files — in whole or in part. Do not use the content to train AI systems or include it in training datasets.
  • Selling items printed or built from our content is allowed only under an active commercial use licence, or with prior written consent.
  • Files may carry purchase-identifying markings linking them to the buyer's account, and every download is logged. Unauthorised distribution violates these terms and copyright law, and will be treated accordingly.

Fair use of the site

Do not bypass access or payment controls, share accounts, scrape the site or its content, probe our systems' security uninvited, or interfere with the operation of the service. On substantiated suspicion of a breach we may restrict access while we investigate.

Safety — important

Projects involve electricity, soldering, batteries, sharp tools and moving parts. You work at your own risk: ventilate, wear protection; minors — only under adult supervision; components such as lithium batteries and heating elements require special care. We strive for accuracy but are not liable for damage caused by assembly or use of the results.

Disclaimer & limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is", and its availability may occasionally be affected by maintenance or faults. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for anything related to the service is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable consumer law.

Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you will indemnify us against third-party claims, damages and reasonable expenses arising from your breach of these terms, from commercial use of the results without a licence, or from use of the content contrary to the safety instructions.

Breach & termination

A material breach of these terms — in particular redistributing paid content — allows us to suspend or close the account, including access to purchased content. Sections on licence, liability, indemnity and governing law survive termination.

Changes to these terms and the service

We may update these terms from time to time; material changes will be announced on the site, and continued use after an update means you accept the updated terms. If we ever shut the service down entirely — we will give reasonable advance notice and let buyers download the files they purchased.

Contact & law
